MicroAire Liposuction
MicroAire Liposuction (MAL) is one of the most recent advances in body sculpturing and was introduced into our Liposuction clinic in 2010.
Liposuction has traditionally involved a ‘to-and-fro’ advance and withdrawal of a liposuction tube (or cannula). MAL adds an additional vibrating tip to the cannula. The vibrations are created by the use of compressed air . The motion created may be likened to that of an electric toothbrush.
- The vibrating tip helps to loosen fat cells whilst removing them. The loosening of the fat cells has been shown to remove up to 30% more fat than traditional liposuction.
- Due to the vibration, less force is required during MAL liposuction. This process reduces injury to the surrounding cells and tissues which means even less discomfort during and after treatment.
The motion of the MicroAire cannula allows the potential for a more precise and more rapid removal of fat compared to traditional liposuction. This is very useful in treating stubborn areas where tissue is more fibrous and fat would otherwise be difficult to remove. eg the upper abdomen and male breasts.
Other benefits include:
- Decreased bruising
- Decreased swelling
- More rapid recovery
In contrast to ultrasound liposuction, no significant thermal energy (heat) is applied with MAL, therefore MAL does not carry the risk of burns and burn-related change that are associated with ultrasound liposuction.
MAL is well suited to the tumescent liposuction technique, therefore at our clinic we are able to take advantage of both these techniques.
With the addition of Microaire Liposuction to our clinic Dr Bellaney is more able to ‘individualise’ each persons treatment. Some patients will benefit from having all their Liposuction done using Microaire whilst in others a combination of Microiare and standard Liposuction may be the best option. In others the use of Microiare may hold no advantages.
